Astronauter var ikke strandet i rummet. De gjorde bar deres arbejde!

Let me set all the facts straight since there are a bajillion keyboard warriors with absolutely no business pretending to be an expert on the space industry. But I am a space industry expert so let's chat. 

There are four astronauts on their way to the International Space Station today, scheduled to dock later tonight. Approximately 4 days from now, the "stranded" astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams – who, as a reminder, had their 8-day mission extended to over 8 months 

thanks to issues with Boeing's Starliner – will finally return home. BUT THEY WERE NEVER STRANDED.

Their ride home is a spacecraft that's been up there since September when Crew-9 arrived at the ISS for its routine 6-month mission. If they had ever needed to come home, they would've been able to. 

When Suni and Butch weren't able to fly back on Starliner, they were added to the 6-month Crew-9 mission. How they added astronauts who were already in space to a different crew was quite simple – instead of launching 4 astronauts, NASA sent only 2, leaving the other 2 seats open for Butch and Suni. 

So, the mission that launched just yesterday, Crew-10, is NOT a rescue mission. It is NOT a mission to retrieve the astronauts. It is another routine 6-month mission that, like all other before it, will relieve the Crew-9 astronauts of their duty. 

TLDR: Crew-10 launches, Crew-9 gets to come home. When Crew-11 launches in 6 months, Crew-10 gets to come home. 

Even though this was an unprecedented situation, it was NEVER political. NASA did not leave their astronauts behind. 

NASA didn't do this on purpose. Hundreds if not thousands of people decided it was too much of a risk to fly them back on Starliner, because we are quite literally talking about ASTRONAUTS' LIVES. Every single day, NASA does everything they can to prevent a repeat of the Challenger and Columbia disasters. 

Elon never offered to bring them home early. Even if he did, it wouldn't have made a lot of sense. 

Butch and Suni are some of the most experienced astronauts out there. While I can't even imagine how hard it was on them to unexpectedly be away from their families for 8 months, they are professionals. They have spent a LOT of time in space. And this will likely be the last flight for both of them.

Lastly, Crew-10's launch scrub on Thursday is extremely common. Launches are postponed (aka scrubbed) ALL THE TIME. Everything from a boat or a plane entering restricted water/air space to Hardware issues can cause scrubs even down to 0.1 seconds before launch. NASA didn't hide anything from the public. It was a standard hardware issue that was quickly fixed. NASA released that information right away. Just because you can draw a correlation between anything does not mean you should. You can hate Elon while respecting spaceflight and these astronauts. Simple as that.

Blue Ghost fra firmaet Firefly. 

Firefly plans to operate Blue Ghost landers to deliver small payloads to the surface of the Moon. The first Blue Ghost missionwas launched January 15, 2025. It successfully landed on the Moon on March 2, 2025.[6] 

The landers are named after the firefly species Phausis reticulata, known as blue ghosts.

Satellitter i fare: Klimaforandringer kan øge mængden af rumaffald

Fortsætter den globale opvarmning, kan det føre til mere rumaffald i kredsløb om Jorden – og øge risikoen for kollisioner med satellitter, konkluderer nyt studie.

Når atmosfæren skrumper, bliver rummet fyldt med skrald

Når drivhusgasser opvarmer de nederste lag af atmosfæren, sker der noget måske lidt uventet: Atmosfærens øvre lag, mesosfæren og termosfæren, bliver faktisk koldere.

Det skyldes blandt andet, at drivhusgasser holder på varmen nær Jorden, hvilket gør, at mindre varme når op til mesosfæren og termosfæren.

Samtidig gør drivhusgasserne også, at mere varme, i form af infrarød stråling, bliver sendt tilbage ud i rummet, inden det når ned i atmosfæren. Det betyder kort fortalt, at de øvre lag af atmosfæren gradvist mister energi og bliver koldere.

Når luft køles ned, trækker den sig sammen. De øvre lag ‘skrumper’ altså, hvilket betyder, at atmosfæren bliver tyndere længere oppe i rummet, hvor satellitterne er.

Normalt er der en smule luftmodstand i disse allerøverste lag af atmosfæren. Luftmodstanden bremser gamle satellitter og rumaffald, indtil de falder ned og brænder op i atmosfæren.

Men når mesosfæren og termosfæren bliver mindre og tyndere, forsvinder en del af den naturlige bremse.

Satellitter og rumaffald fortsætter derfor i kredsløb om Jorden i længere tid.

Flere gamle satellitter og mere rumaffald i rummet fører også til større risiko for kollisioner, hvilket kan skabe endnu mere skrald.

 Den såkaldte Country Overshoot Day er beregnet af organisationen Global Footprint Network. Den viser, at Danmark trods politiske udsagn om at være et grønt foregangsland ligger nummer 12 på listen over de mest belastende lande, overgået af lande som USA, en række olieproducerende stater og lande som Singapore og Luxembourg. Sidste år lå vi nummer 13, men nåede dagen allerede 16. marts.

Global sea levels rose faster than expected in 2024, mostly because of ocean water expanding as it warms, or thermal expansion. According to a NASA-led analysis, last year’s rate of rise was 0.23 inches per year, compared to the expected rate of 0.17 inches per year. Since the satellite record of ocean height began in 1993, the rate of annual sea level rise has more than doubled. In total, global sea level has gone up by 4 inches since 1993.
